Walton Verona student struck by driver as he crossed street

WALTON, Ky. -- A 17-year-old boy crossing the street was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday after being struck at the intersection of Mary Grubbs Highway and Towne Center Boulevard.

Hunter Donovan, a senior at Walton Verona High School, was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

Police said he was injured when Tara Koors, 51, of Walton, struck him with her 2005 GMC Envoy. Koors was traveling westbound on Mary Grubbs Highway in the left lane at the intersection with Town Center Boulevard on a green light when she struck the teenager. She was not injured in the crash.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time, and Koors is cooperating with the investigation. Donovan’s family and school authorities have been notified.

Any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy Dustin Bowling or Lt. Chris Hall of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department at 859-334-2175. The intersection remained closed during the investigation but reopened to traffic at about 9:10 a.m. Wednesday.
