ERLANGER, Ky. — Charles Burnett, 26, and Emma Haumesser, 20, were booked into the Boone County Detention Center Tuesday night on charges of kidnapping and first-degree robbery.
Deputies were on the hunt Tuesday for the couple, who they say abducted a Pomeroy, Ohio, man at gunpoint and forced the individual to withdraw cash from several ATMs across Boone County on Sunday.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Burnett and Haumesser abducted the individual from the Quality Inn and Suites on Airport Exchange Boulevard Feb. 14. Police say the victim contacted Haumesser through the website backpage.com arranging for her to come to his room. While there, Haumesser excused herself to take a phone call and walked out of the room. That’s when Burnett burst in the room displaying a handgun and ordered the victim to come with him.
Deputies said Haumesser and Burnett drove the man to six different ATM machines, ordering him to withdraw money at each. The sixth ATM machine kept the card, so the two assaulted the man and dropped him near the Red Roof Inn at 630 Donaldson Rd. in Erlanger, Kentucky.
"He's fine," sheriff's spokesman Tom Scheben said. "He got a black eye and a popped mouth, but, you know, he's 22 years old -- probably more than anything, a bruised ego."
