INTERACTIVE: Dalton's 'red zone' passing is key

Posted

Quarterback Andy Dalton’s seven-yard pass to wide receiver A.J. Green late in the fourth quarter Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens was a game winner for the Cincinnati Bengals.

But one reason the Bengals are off to a 3-0 start this season is because Dalton is getting more opportunity to make those types of end zone throws.

The perfectly-timed out-pattern to Green in the left corner of the end zone was Dalton’s sixth touchdown pass of the young season in an opponents’ “red zone” – the prime scoring area of the football field.

Thus far this year, Dalton has attempted 25 “red zone” passes – in the area of the field that is 20 yards or less from the end zone. He’s completed 11 of those passes for 90 yards.

Since his rookie year in 2011, Dalton has never thrown more than 14 passes in the red zone in the Bengals’ first three games, and has never had more than three red-zone touchdown throws.

Check out Dalton’s overall passing stats in the red zone, as well as other areas of the field, with the interactive chart that gives details of every NFL regular-season and playoff pass he’s thrown.
