CINCINNATI — A statewide partnership to help people gain access to healthy foods kicks off in Cincinnati Saturday at Findlay Market.

Buckeye Health Plan, in partnership with Produce Perks, is hosting Buckeye Fresh! events at farmers markets statewide.

Every Buckeye member who attends gets a $10 coupon for fresh fruits and vegetables, and their children receive a free Buckeye Buck for a healthy snack, according to a news release.

Only 10.6% of Ohio adults eat the recommended amount of fruit everyday, according to Buckeye Health Plan, and about 7% eat the recommended amount of veggies.

“Healthy, nutritious food is a basic necessity for us all — yet millions of Ohioans struggle to get access to affordable fruits and vegetables,” said Tevis Foreman, executive director of Produce Perks Midwest. “Partnerships like this one are essential to raising awareness on this important health issue and creating opportunities for more Ohioans to get the nutritious foods they need.”

Buckeye members can visit Findlay Market between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday for their coupon. The Buckeye Fresh! events also include healthy food tips and cooking demonstrations.
