CINCINNATI -- A brush with death taught Debi Schweitzer how important it is to pay attention to your ticker.

Schweitzer started spreading the word at The Christ Hospital with the "Little Hats, Big Hearts" project.

"I shouldn't have lived through my heart attack," she said. "But I did, so this is my way of giving back to the community."

Through February, the American Heart Association's project will give red hats to newborn babies. The hats come with a reminder: "This cute red hat will keep me warm and remind you to love your heart like you love me."

CSE is a partner in the giveaway.

"We'd really like to see improved outcomes and the understanding of what it looks like when a woman has a heart attack," CSE executive Jaymi Wilson said.

When Schweitzer started "Little Hats, Big Hearts" four years ago, she gave away 150 hats at Christ Hospital. It's now up to 2,100 hats and 11 hospitals.
