CINCINNATI -- Voters approved a levy to fund Great Parks of Hamilton County by a wide margin Tuesday.

Issue 52 had 69 percent of votes for and 31 percent against, according to preliminary election results. There were 265,644 votes for the levy and 117,454 votes against.

The levy will replace the 2002 levy, which was set to expire in 2017. The levy will cost property owners $35 per year for every $100,000 of property valuation for 10 years.

Taxes have historically made up about 55 percent of Great Parks' revenue, according to officials.

Great Parks officials said the funding will be used to protect 17,000 acres of green space, maintain 78 miles of trails, protect waterways, upgrade existing facilities and increase accessibility for people with disabilities.
