CINCINNATI -- About 200 Tri-State high schoolers watched open heart surgery live Tuesday.

The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences wants to recruit young people for the nursing profession. Tuesday's surgery livestream was part of that effort.

"As the country ages, the baby boomers are requiring more health care than the past, and a lot of nurses are from that generation," said Brad Jackson, the school's dean of enrollment. "So there's a gap in how many people need health care and the people to service them."

In the livestream, the incoming pool of talent got a look at the kind of work they could be doing someday. The doctor in the operating room talked them through the procedure and a surgical assistant answered questions.
