Passenger dies after being thrown from car during Mount Lookout police chase, Cincinnati police say

CINCINNATI -- A passenger died after he was thrown from a car during a chase through Mount Lookout early Saturday, Cincinnati police said.

A Hamilton County deputy was chasing Gregory Cole, 26, shortly after midnight, police said.

Zyron Day, 20, was thrown from Cole's car when Cole hit an SUV, according to a criminal complaint filed with Hamilton County Municipal Court. He suffered life-threatening injuries, and the Hamilton County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene.

Cole ran off, according to the complaint, and Cincinnati police caught him about two hours later. He wasn't injured in the crash police said.

Speeding played a part in the crash, according to the Cincinnati Police Department's Traffic Unit.

Cole faces a charge of failing to stop after an accident. The Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate. Any witnesses are asked to call the Traffic Unit at  at 513-352-2514.
