Suspect arrested, charged in Monday's double shooting in Walnut Hills

CINCINNATI -- Police arrested and charged a suspect in Monday's double shooting in Walnut Hills.

Demico Phillips, 35, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of felony assault and one weapons charge. He was given a $10 million bond for the combined assault charges and a $50,000 bond on gun charge.

The shooting shut down Peebles Corner in Walnut Hills for several hours Monday morning as police investigated the scene near the intersection of Gilbert and McMillan avenues.

Around 4:23 a.m. Monday, police responded to reports of seven gunshots were heard near the PNC Bank, where a white van was found with a gunshot in the passenger-side door. Emergency crews took a 27-year-old woman and 26-year-old woman to UC Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The women were stabilized at the hospital.

An affidavit said the two victims underwent "extensive treatment" at UC Hospital. 

One woman was found in the bank parking lot, while the other was found a short distance away at 2445 Gilbert Ave. According to police reports, the "victim stated that a known listed suspect shot her with a gun causing serious physical harm."

The affidavit said Phillips was identified by the victims and caught on security cameras.
