LEBANON, Ohio – Scammers posing as law enforcement officers have been calling Warren County residents, deputies warned Friday.
The callers claim there is a problem with the victim’s bank account, then scam the victim out of money to get the account fixed.
Victims have already been taken for thousands of dollars in this scam.
Deputies said anyone who gets a call like that about their bank account should contact their bank directly, and not talk to the caller.
Fifth Third Bank also recently warned of a new phone scam from someone targeting their customers. Those scammers claimed there was an issue with victims’ debit cards, and asked them to punch in the card number to “unlock” it.
This also isn’t the first time scammers have posed as law enforcement officers. In January, Warren County deputies warned that someone claiming to be a deputy was threatening arrest and demanding money orders from victims. It's happened elsewhere, too. However, deputies do not ask for payment over the phone.
