COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — ’Tis the season for ordering online to avoid hoards of holiday shoppers at the mall, but along with that comes brash thieves swiping packages off porches.

Delhi Township resident Michael T. Hobbs, 45, was arrested Wednesday and charged with theft. Court records state Hobbs took $110 worth of packages from Home Chef and JCPenney that had been delivered to a residence on Wednesday.

The complaint states that Hobbs was identified through security camera footage. At 9 a.m. Thursday, a judge assigned a $2,500 bond for theft, and Hobbs was ordered to stay away from the victim and her residence.

To keep deliveries safe while people are away from home, Colerain Township Police have offered township residents the opportunity to have their packages delivered to the police station at 4200 Springdale Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45251. As alternatives, they also recommend having packages delivered to a neighbor or scheduling to receive deliveries while you're home to keep them safe from opportunistic thieves.
