CINCINNATI -- A 16-year-old male is in critical but stable condition after being shot around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday on Yale Avenue at Gilbert Avenue in Walnut Hills. Police say the incident arose from a drug transaction between the victim and suspects.

Shortly after the incident was reported, officers observed a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Uniformed members of the Cincinnati Police Gang Enforcement Squad stopped the car in the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue and placed its three occupants into custody without incident.

Police filed felonious assault and aggravated robbery charges against 18-year-old Dremar Barton and complicity to the same charges against 18-year-old Gabrielle Cody. The third occupant of the vehicle, a 16-year-old male, was released into the custody of his mother.

A search warrant was executed on the PT Cruiser, resulting in the recovery of evidence that police say reveals the incident arose out of an altercation as a result of a drug transaction between the victim and suspects.

The victim remains at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the torso. Both suspects are currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center awaiting their initial appearance in court.
