CINCINNATI -- A suspect stole a utility truck Friday and drove around with an employee inside the truck’s bucket before crashing in Over-the-Rhine, according to Cincinnati police.

Police said Dennis Smith stole a Village of Elmwood Place utility truck and drove it while an Elmwood Public Works employee was in the bucket. Police used stop sticks to flatten the vehicle’s tires, and Smith crashed the truck at 1729 Vine Street. The Cincinnati Fire Department rescued the employee, and first responders transported the employee to a hospital.

Police booked Smith into the Hamilton County Justice Center on charges of kidnapping, theft of a motor vehicle and failure to comply with the lawful order or signal of a police officer.

The incident is under investigation.
