MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- A 10-year-old boy is accused of starting a fire inside of a Middletown Family Dollar, Lt. Jim Cunningham said.

Middletown police charged the boy with delinquency with aggravated arson. The fire caused more than $200,000 in damages, police said.

Middletown Fire Department extinguished the fire at Family Dollar on Roosevelt Blvd. at about 1 p.m. Sunday. There were about 10 people inside the store at the time, but no one was injured, Cunningham said.

Firefighters determined someone intentionally started the fire, and the Middletown Fire Investigation Task Force helped identify the 10-year-old boy as a suspect.

The boy’s mother helped police locate her son, and the boy was taken into custody at about 3:15 p.m. Cunningham said both were cooperative during the investigation.

The boy was released to his mother. He will appear in Butler County Juvenile Court on May 16.
