COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's State Highway Patrol says a recent enforcement and awareness effort on impaired driving as part of a multi-state law enforcement partnership resulted in a total of 700 arrests for driving under the influence.

The patrol reports 280 of those arrests were made in Ohio. State police from Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia and Indiana also participated in the initiative that was in effect from 12 a.m. on Dec. 7 through 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 9. It also was aimed at educating motorists about the dangers of impaired driving.

The 6-State Trooper Project is a partnership created to provide combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol, and information sharing.
