COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A domestic violence suspect who police say pointed a gun at an officer will be charged with felonious assault, Colerain Township Police spokesman Jim Love said.

That is, once he's released from a hospital.

Police Chief Mark Denney said officers responded Friday to a call on Thompson Road. Denney said they found Gary Sanzone, 66, inside the rural home with a firearm in his hand.

An officer shot Sanzone multiple times; he was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Love said all evidence, including body camera footage, would be sent to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office.

Denney estimated officers had visited the Thompson Road residence around 20 separate times since 2014.

The officer, whose name has not been disclosed, was unharmed. Cincinnati police are handling the investigation into her use of force.
