WHITEWATER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A man shot and killed an "intruder" inside a home early Wednesday morning, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The homeowner, 38-year-old John Heard, called 911 at about 1 a.m. to report that an intruder came into his State Route 128 home and that he fatally shot the man, deputies said in a news release. When Whitewater Township EMS responded, they found 26-year-old Butler County resident Andrew Naegele dead.

Detectives learned that Heard actually knew Naegele, who was his drug dealer, deputies said. Naegele went to Heard's home to collect a debt owed for methamphetamine, and deputies said Heard indicated that he knew that's why Naegele was at his home.

Naegele was a member of the Iron Horsemen motorcycle gang, according to the sheriff's office.

Heard is facing a charge of weapons under disability. He's being held in the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Naegele's death is still under investigation. The sheriff's Criminal Investigative Section will work with the prosecutor's office to determine whether additional charges will be filed.

Detectives are looking for a pickup truck that witnesses saw leaving Heard's home. It was last seen hearing west on Cilley Road.

Deputies asked anyone with information to call the Criminal Investigative Section at 513-851-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 513-352-3040.
