Hamilton and Fairfield police are teaming up to keep women in the Tri-State safe by offering free rape prevention defense classes.

The classes -- also known as RAD -- teach self-defense techniques and prevention tips, like how to "prowler-proof" your home.

One thing officers said makes many people vulnerable to attacks: cell phones.

"Keep your head out of your phone when you're walking to your car," Officer Kristy Collins of Hamilton police recommends. "Look around when you enter a store or leave your home, and pay attention when you step outside instead of looking at your phone."

The classes are open to all women -- you don't have to live in Hamilton or Fairfield -- and are free of charge. The first class is March 2 at the Fairfield Community Arts Center.
