BATAVIA, Ohio – A fired police sergeant must serve 30 days in jail and register as a sex offender, a Clermont County judge ruled Thursday.

John Swing, 51, was convicted of three misdemeanor counts of sexual imposition last month. Swing must also pay a $300 fine and served three years' probation.

Swing, who served 18 years in the Miami Township police, was charged with groping a 20-year-old woman during a ride-along in April, 2015. The woman was in the department's Explorers program.

Swing was fired in 2015 after an internal investigation by a law firm concluded he had committed "gross misconduct" on the job. The 23-page report also said Swing sent sexually explicit text messages to other women in the police department, abused his authority in an effort to solicit sexual conduct, and lied to investigators.
