FBI arrests man accused of firing gun during Colerain Township bank robbery

CINCINNATI -- FBI special agents, police and deputies arrested a man Tuesday who they said exchanged gunfire with an off-duty police officer during a bank robbery earlier this year.

Malcolm Jones, 21, robbed the Key Bank on Springdale Road in Colerain Township on May 22, the FBI said in a news release. During the robbery, an armed off-duty police officer intervened, and the two exchanged shots before Jones ran away.

He was previously indicted on charges of conspiracy to use a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, armed bank robbery and use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Authorities arrested Jones at about 2 p.m. Tuesday at a Cleves residence.

Jones' accomplice in the robbery, Nelson Jones, was previously arrested, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters. Nelson Jones was also indicted on charges of use of a firearm during a crime of violence and conspiracy to use a firearm during an in relation to a crime of violence.

Malcolm Jones is being held in federal custody.
