HAMILTON, Ohio -- A former Butler County corrections officer is facing a bribery charge after authorities said he brought illegal items into the Butler County Correctional Facility.

Brandon Moore is accused of bringing cellphones, tools and protein powder into the jail, the Butler County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Tuesday.

Moore was arrested after a routine cell search turned up a cellphone in the pod where he was assigned. Detectives began investigating and learned that Moore brought the items into the jail in exchange for money.

"It is never easy when you have to investigate one of your own," Detective Sgt. Ed Tanner said. "We are, and should be, held to a higher accountability. He knew the rules, he knew better, and he did it anyway."

Authorities said more charges could be added.

"This guy obviously had no respect for himself or the safety of his co-workers," Sheriff Richard Jones said. "Now he will be on the other side of the bars he once guarded, and he deserves it."
