CINCINNATI — Deputies caught an inmate attempting to escape from the Reading Road Correctional Treatment Facility, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil announced Monday.

An alarm sounded at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday in the third-floor stairwell of the facility. Authorities observed 26-year-old inmate Robert Suddarth on camera exiting the stairs on the ground floor and entering the recreation yard, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Suddarth was unable get past a fence and deputies caught him, according to the sheriff's office.

Suddarth was arrested on Nov. 25 on charges of aggravated menacing and domestic violence threats. Police said in court records that Suddarth threatened to kill family members and used an ax to bust through a door.

He was lodged at the Reading Road facility since Dec. 26, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities have now charged Suddarth with escape. He's being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
