CINCINNATI -- A Hamilton County grand jury indicted a boyfriend and girlfriend Thursday on charges of raping a developmentally delayed woman.

Robert Achtermann, 53, is facing three charges of rape for two alleged incidents in 2014 and a third incident in November, Prosecutor Joe Deters announced. His girlfriend, 39-year-old Shannon Melford, is facing one rape charge related to the same alleged incident in November.

"These people are disgusting," Deters said in a written statement. "To use a developmentally disabled person as a sex tool is beyond comprehension. I pray for the victim and pray that these idiots never get out of jail."

Both Achtermann and Melford are being held in the Hamilton County Justice Center. If convicted, Achtermann faces as much as 33 years in prison and Melford faces as much as 11 years.
