CINCINNATI -- One person is dead after what appears to be an attempted burglary Saturday afternoon, Cincinnati police said.

Officers were called to Roe Street near Jameson Street around 12:45 p.m. A resident there shot 35-year-old Tyrone Frazier, a would-be burglar, Lt. Steve Saunders said.

Tyrone Frazier, 35, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Madisonville, police said.

Frazier was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The Cincinnati Police Department's Homicide Unit was called to the scene, Saunders said.

Marlene Smith has lived in the neighborhood for 18 years, and she said crime is unusual.

"Police came. I looked out and seen the guy laying on the ground, laying in the yard," Smith said. "But they're wonderful neighbors.

"I don't feel any different about anything. I still feel safe."

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
