Another reason not to idle and 'warm up' your car

It's not good for newer cars and it's bad for the environment. Here's one more reason not to "warm up" your car by idling this winter: theft.

Police in North College Hill, Norwood and across the Tri-State are warning citizens against leaving cars idling empty to "warm up" as the temperature drops. With keys in the ignition, it's easy for someone else to hop in your car and take off.

"While everyone loves to get into a warm, ice-free window, vehicle, never leave your vehicle running and unattended," police said in a Facebook post. "This is very attractive to thieves, joy riders, and other ne'er-do-wells."

Not only that, but it's illegal to run your car unmanned in some cities, including North College Hill.

"Don't let your unattended, idling, unlocked vehicle become an early Christmas present for would-be car thieves," NCHPD said on Facebook.
