CINCINNATI - Two accused killers planned an "elaborate scheme" to escape from the Justice Center but were foiled by deputies, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil said Thursday.

Deputies discovered the plan by James Kirby and Tristian Herron during routine shakedowns, Neil said. The two were jailed on aggravated murder and other serious charges, Neil said.

Neil said he honored two deputies, Alexander Kramer and Chady Chahine, with “Challenge Coins” for preventing their escape.

Herron is serving 10 years in prison after recently pleading to involuntary manslaughter  and aggravated robbery, Neil said.

Kirby is still in the Justice Center awaiting trial March 21 on aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and other charges.
