Another District 5 officer has been diagnosed with cancer while the city's plans to move officers from their troubled headquarters on Ludlow Avenue continue to be delayed, according to FOP President Dan Hils.
The widow of a Cincinnati police officer also filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming hazardous conditions at District Five headquarters led to his death.
Spec. Robert McGuire died from complications of lung cancer in 2015. His wife claims McGuire's exposure to mold and other chemicals during his tenure at District Five caused his cancer.
Some city officials and members of the police union have alleged District Five headquarters is unsafe, claiming mold, bugs, asbestos and limited space put the officers who work there at risk.
The men and women who patrol our city face enough dangers each day they go out. They shouldn't have to face them at their headquarters.
