Addiction to opioids is increasingly being treated as a medical issue rather a crime. Resources from expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act has helped bolster addiction treatment in states like Ohio where the opioid crisis has hit hardest.
But Senate Republicans are unveiling a new health care plan that would phase out Medicaid, potentially cutting off the resources necessary for those battling addiction.
