CINCINNATI — The Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati is accepting applications for a new program that helps lower-income residents over the age of 65 pay their sewer bills.

Eligible applicants can receive a 25% discount on their monthly bills through the Customer Assistance Program (CAP), according to a city official.

The program begins on Aug. 1, and approved applicants will see the discount take effect on their next full billing cycle.

“Many utilities throughout the U.S. provide programs to assist customers with their utility bills,” said MSD Interim Director Diana Christy. “We wanted to provide that same help for our lower-income, senior sewer customers.”

Sewer rates for all other MSD customers will not increase in 2019.

The requirements for CAP are as follows:

  • Applicants must be 65 or older.
  • Applicants must own and live in the home for which they are paying the MSD sewer bill.
  • Applicants must have had an Ohio Adjusted Gross Income of no more than $32,800 for 2019 (including combined income).
