CINCINNATI — The Hoxworth Blood Center is making an "emergency appeal" for type O negative blood, saying it has seen an increased demand and a drop in donations in the last few weeks.

Hoxworth has only 58 percent of the optimal O negative inventory, according to Cara Nicolas, the associate public information officer for the blood center. She said they have reached "critical levels."

"We serve 30 hospitals from the general Tri-State area, so we really need all eligible O negative donors to come out immediately and roll up a sleeve for us," Nicolas said.

They also need O positive and A positive donors.

Hoxworth operates seven donor centers in Anderson, Blue Ash, Fort Mitchell, West Chester, Tri-County, Western Hills and adjacent to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. They accept walk-ins, but encourage donors to make an appointment by calling 513-451-0910 or visiting hoxworth.org.
