CINCINNATI — As we enter the traditional flu season, some doctors are suggesting to hold off on getting your flu shot for another few weeks.

Health experts said that while September usually marks the beginning of flu season, social distancing and extra hand washing brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic has offset the beginning of flu season. Now, those experts said the flu could peak in February or March.

With the peak of the season happening much later than usual, Dr. Roberto Colón with Premier Health said delaying your flu shot could be beneficial.

"There’s a lot of thought that the middle to end of October may be the ideal time to get it so that you have protection to go through the entire influenza season," Colón said.

He also said don't let conspiracy theories about the flu vaccine deter you from getting it. The vaccine is still the best way to make sure you and your family and friends stay healthy and safe.
