Matt Pearl

National Correspondent

Matt Pearl is a National Correspondent for The E.W. Scripps Company. He reports long-form, in-depth stories about meaningful subjects that run across the company’s dozens of local TV stations. Matt travels the country to tell stories of substance.

During Matt’s nearly two-decade career in journalism, he has served as a correspondent from the 2008 Democratic Convention, the 2010 Gulf oil spill, and the 2017 Presidential inauguration. He has reported from the World Series, three Super Bowls, and three Olympic Games. His stories have appeared on CNN, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, and most famously NBC Nightly News.

A native of New Jersey, Matt graduated from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. He worked at stations in Sioux City, Iowa and Buffalo, N.Y. and most recently spent 12 years as a reporter with WXIA-TV in Atlanta. His work has been honored with 40 Regional Emmy Awards and 16 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, and he is a five-time NPPA National Solo Video Journalist of the Year.

In 2013, Matt started the Telling the Story blog and podcast. In 2016, he authored The Solo Video Journalist, a how-to book for aspiring storytellers and multimedia journalists, through Routledge and Focal Press. The second edition was published in the summer of 2020. Most recently, Matt received his MFA degree in Narrative Media from the University of Georgia.

Matt lives with his family in Atlanta, where he loves to hike, cook, and explore. He is proud to be a journalist and storyteller.
