A safe haven for homeless dogs in the Tri-State is asking the community for help beating the summer heat.

Sweet Dream House Rescue in Lockland is a temporary home for about 30 dogs. Right now, their home isn't safe for dogs with health issues; temperatures inside the shelters have reached up to 90 degrees during the last week's heat wave.

“We’ve been dealing with some extreme heat in our facility," volunteer Carmen McKeehan said. "The dogs who are sick and the dogs who need a little extra care, we’ve put them in foster homes."

The building's fans have helped, but McKeehan said it's not enough.

"In the past it wasn't quite as hot," she said. "And everybody knows it's pretty hot out there."

Tonight, Sweet Dream House is teaming up with MadTree Brewing for "PsycHOPuppy 2," a fundraiser and yappy hour that benefits the shelter and Fureverhome, a local organization that helps rescues promote their adoptable animals.

The fundraising event begins tonight at 6 p.m. at MadTree on Kennedy Avenue. The $5 door fee benefits the rescues, and donated fans will be graciously accepted as well.
