Kings Island wins 2 awards at industry 'Oscars'

MASON, Ohio -- Kings Island amusement park took home two awards from the Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Awards on Saturday.

Kings Island's Planet Snoopy was awarded the "Best Kids' Area in the World" and The Beast was voted the No. 8 best wooden rollercoaster in the world at the New York City event that Kings Island described as "the amusement industry's equivalent of the Oscars."

Award winners are selected through votes by "amusement park enthusiasts from around the world," according to a press release.

Ohio neighbor and fellow Cedar Fair park Cedar Point was named the second best park in the world, as well as home to one of the best indoor water parks. Holiday World in Santa Claus, Ind., won awards in categories for new attractions, best park, friendliest park, as well as the award for the cleanest park in the world.

Other competitors include Dollyworld, Six Flags, Busch Gardens, Universal Studios, Europa-Park (Germany), Disneyland and Epcot and Magic Kingdom in Disney World.
