KISS frontman Gene Simmons says he was the first to use the popular “rock on” hand gesture, so he wants to trademark it, CNN reported.

The star has filed an application to trademark the “rock on” sign, which is the same symbol in sign language for “I love you.”

Simmons claims he was the first to use the gesture in November 1974 during his “Hotter Than Hell” tour.

The Beatles’ John Lennon also used the hand gesture on the cover of their 1966 “Yellow Submarine/Eleanor Rigby” record.
