A star of the cult favorite “Hocus Pocus” expressed doubts about the remake.
Bette Midler, who played lead witch Winifred Sanderson, told PEOPLE on Monday the new version of the Halloween classic would be “cheap” and difficult to cast.
“I know it’s cheap,” Midler said. “It’s going to be cheap!”
Midler also said it will be difficult to find someone to play the role of Sanderson.
“I’m not sure what they’re going to do with my character,” Midler said. “My character is very, very broad, and I don’t know who they’re going to find to play that.”
The new movie is still being produced. Scarlett Lacey is writing the remake. David Kirschner, the original producer, has also signed on. Kenny Ortega, who directed the 1993 film, is not involved in directing the new version.
Some members of the original cast have expressed interest in taking part in the remake, but Midler said she would not return.
