MadTree Brewing thrives off community support

Posted

When Brady Duncan talks about the beginnings of MadTree Brewing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, he isn’t simply referring to the business.

For him and other staff members, it means so much more.

“The community around craft beer is really, really cool,” Duncan said. “Starting this new thing and seeing this community thrive around us was the reason we got into it and continue until this day.”

Community and partnership with others helped MadTree Brewing Company have the foresight to understand that not only did the team need to create a top-quality product, but also a safe and efficient establishment for employees and customers.

Liability is one of the biggest factors in any business, and the MadTree team understood the needs that come from having such a niche company and product.

“Early on, I think you have to find a partner who understands this industry and the risk you are taking when you start a manufacturing and alcohol business,” he said. “Our legal team was great at getting us setup and protected by thinking about how we protect our assets, long term, and also how we ensure we are running a responsible business and taking care of our employees.”

Duncan believes the craft beer industry continues to grow in popularity due the way brewers are able to capture the creative spirit in their product and have a good time doing it, while balancing the serious nature of making an outstanding beer.

“There’s a lot of authenticity that drives this business,” Duncan said. “Work doesn’t feel like work and the culture here is completely awesome. This industry is exploding. You know, it’s fun to make beer and crack jokes and not take ourselves too seriously, but at the end of the day we’re serious about good beer.”

The community has welcomed MadTree’s authenticity. After only three years, the company decided to expand its operation to meet demand. In January 2016, MadTree Brewing Company broke ground on its $18 million production brewery in the Oakley business district. The project includes an American-made W.M Sprinkman Corp. 100 barrel brewhouse, an expanded quality laboratory, a larger taproom featuring 64 taps and a 10,000 sq. ft. outdoor beer garden, an expanded Catch-A-Fire Café, two private event spaces and office space. The facility’s grand opening is targeted for late 2016 or early 2017.

MadTree Brewing Company is a policyholder of the Cincinnati Insurance Company.
