Simmer down, fall! Here's why it's been so cool this month

And, yes, we will get back up to 80

CINCINNATI -- Don't get us wrong, the cool, fall temperatures have been refreshing and nice on the pocket book. But some are wondering, where's our heat? Why is it so cool? Will we hit 80 again?

Here's a quick look back at the first part of September and what's to come:

How far below normal are we?

The average daily temperature for Sept. 13 was running a full 8 degrees below normal. Only one day has had a "normal" high; the average high for the early part of September is around 80-82.

Why has it been so cool?

You can blame two major hurricanes for our cool weather. While Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma were much stronger along the coast, the remnants of both systems ended up in the Tri-State. Harvey came in first on the first day of the month with 1.58 inches of rain. Clouds hung around the following day, keeping the high at 62, some 20 degrees below normal. Sept. 12-14, remnants of Irma kept temperatures cool with expansive, thick clouds and scattered showers.

Will we hit 80 again?

Yes! Don't hit snooze on our forecast, because it's happening fast.

Why is it warming back up?

The jet stream is finally shifting to the north to allow warmer air to build across the Ohio Valley. An area of high pressure off the Texas coastline is helping in this process, too. We'll see highs near or just above 80 from Saturday through mid-next week. I'm seeing signs in the extended outlooks that this should hold longer than that too.
