CINCINNATI -- Motorists have gotten used to construction barrels at the new $80 million interchange between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Interstate 71, but they'll soon be coming down.

The new ramp from Martin Luther King to northbound I-71 opens to traffic at about 9 a.m. Monday.

The ramp from McMillan Street to northbound I-71 will close at approximately 9 a.m. May 1 and remain closed through June 30. Traffic will be detoured using the new MLK/I-71 ramp.

Work on the interchange began in 2014 and is expected to be complete by fall 2017. Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place to alert motorists of the work zone and ramp closure. All work is dependent upon weather.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
