CINCINNATI – A Hamilton County grand jury indicted two men in the death of a 19-year-old woman and the assault of another woman, Prosecutor Joe Deters announced Thursday.

John Sanders and Robert Carpenter were charged with shooting at the vehicle in which Parris Hummons, 19, and Kristian Williams, 20, were riding April 16, Deters said. Williams, the driver, was shot in the arm. Hummons was shot in the head and died from her injuries.

Sanders, 21, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, murder, two counts of felonious assault, weapon under disability, tampering with evidence and trafficking in cocaine.

Carpenter, 19, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, murder, two counts of felonious assault and tampering with evidence.

If convicted of all the charges, both men face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hummons and Williams were college students. They were in a vehicle that belonged to a friend of Williams, and authorities believe they were not the intended targets, Deters said.

“This is a horrible case,” Deters said. “We have two innocent young women the victims of a senseless crime.”

Sanders and Carpenter are scheduled to appear in court for arraignment Friday.
