CINCINNATI -- It's a ...

BOY!

Most importantly, it's a healthy baby coming into our lives. All 10 tiny fingers and 10 tiny toes. I've even had dreams lately about having a little boy, so even my subconscious mind knew! Let me tell you how my husband, daughter and I all found out.

I got my ultrasound done a week ago today here in downtown Cincinnati after work. My husband couldn't make it due to work, but that's OK. We had a plan NOT to learn the gender during the ultrasound. Instead, when the doctor got to the anatomy part of the exam, I turned away and let the tech write down what the gender was.

We all definitely wanted to find out the gender together.

After telling a neighbor about our plan a few weeks ago, Tricia and her husband, Bill, insisted that they throw us a gender reveal party. We would still find out together. If you haven't heard about gender reveal parties, they are ALL the rage right now for expecting couples.

Is it a fun way to announce? Definitely! Or is it just another excuse to get a few gifts? Well, I guess it is that, too. If you haven't seen this hot pregnancy trend, head here.

I marched that envelope right down to Tricia so she could put together the finishing touches. She was kind enough to include my mom, sister and mother-in-law in the process. And then the day came!

The gender can be revealed by cutting into a cake, popping a balloon, popping a confetti popper or even by revealing a big box of appropriately colored balloons. You can see how my friends and family decided to share the news:

It's a boy!

There was also another cool thing at our bee-themed party. Guests were asked to put on a bow tie (made by me!) if they thought it was going to be a boy and a bow in their hair if they thought it was a girl. Even the kids got in on the fun.

Most importantly, it was a celebration of new life with the people we love. I can honestly say I'm blessed with great people in my life and family that supports us with every step. Having them there for this moment was the proverbial icing on the cake.

But how did Stella react to having a baby brother? This picture says it all ...

Poor Stella wasn't as excited as we were.

It looks like we have a little work to do on getting Stella ready for a little brother. She pouted for a good portion of the day after that. I'd love to hear any tips you have on getting a big sister ready for little brother!
