MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Police arrested man Monday they said was responsible for burning down his own home in September.

Ross Compton, 59, escaped through a window as a fire destroyed his Court Donegal home Sept. 19.

No people were injured in the fire, but Compton's cat did not escape, investigators said at the time.

After the fire, police put up crime scene tape around the property and fire officials began an arson investigation.

Compton, who was staying in a local hotel after the fire, was charged with aggravated arson and insurance fraud as a result of the investigation.

He was due to appear in court Wednesday.
