COLD SPRING, Ky. — St. Vincent de Paul is opening a centralized food pantry and thrift store in Northern Kentucky over the next few months.

Karen Zengel, executive director of St. Vincent de Paul, said the need for assistance in Northern Kentucky has increased significantly. For example, she said people asking for rent assistance has increased to two-and-a-half times what it was a year ago.

Zengel also said they are still asking for donations or gently used furniture, houseware and clothes, but they have volunteers already asking to help when the location opens.

"The Greater Cincinnati community, in terms of their support for one another, and not leaving anyone alone, kind of out there to fend for themselves, has been a blessing to come out of the pandemic," Zengel said. "If we can make it through this pandemic, I feel like we can make it through anything."

The new location will be at 3972 Alexandria Pike in Cold Spring, Ky., and it will have a food pantry and thrift store. The food pantry will open on March 3, and the thrift store will open on April 15.
