MONROE, Ohio -- Some of Monroe's streets became rivers Thursday afternoon as a brief but powerful thunderstorm lashed the region with rain, lightning and hail.

Mark Strong, who washes Warren County Transit vehicles every other week, said he had to send a picture of the flooding to his boss to make it clear: If he still wanted to reach the job, he'd have to take a canoe.

"He said he has never seen it that bad," Strong said.

A group of young dancers at a local studio had to be evacuated from their building, said Warren County Transit employee David Mundell. The experience didn't scare them too badly, he said.

"A couple of them were a little bit concerned, but the other ones were singing Happy Birthday to one of their friends on the bus," he said.

It was an eventful day for just about everyone who needed to make their way down Senate Drive, but the rain had begun to evaporate by the evening.
