BATAVIA, Ohio – If the very first game is any indication of what West Clermont football is to become, there are going to be some glorious and enjoyable days ahead.

Playing in front of a crowd of more than 6,000 as two schools became one with the merger of Amelia and Glen Este, the Wolves players endeared themselves to their fans in the debut for West Clermont.

Down 13-0, the Wolves reeled off 28 unanswered points to take down Princeton 28-13 in front of the boisterous home crowd in a new stadium. The spirited effort showed a dogged determination and a never-quit attitude from West Clermont.

The Wolves ran only 40 plays in the contest but made the most of them. Five different backs had runs of 17 yards or more but none had more than 46 yards on the night. West Clermont attempted only four passes, completing three including 48-yard and 65-yard touchdown catches. The special teams even had a 26-yard punt return and a 61-yard kickoff return.

Late in the fourth quarter the Wolves closed the deal with a pair of scoring runs in a span of 19 seconds aided by a Princeton turnover. West Clermont also shut out the Vikings in the second half.

Everyone got into the act.

Chayce Gambrell threw and ran for touchdowns. Hunter Eads threw for and caught a touchdown. Austin Maham had a team-high 78 yards from scrimmage (30 rushing, 48 receiving). Jacob Kilgore paced the squad with 46 yards on the ground.

Princeton quarterback Hosea Hairston led rushers with 77 yards.
