SPRINGBORO, Ohio - Senior quarterback Kerry Mayberry threw for two touchdowns and ran for one as Winton Woods jumped to a 3-0 start with a 29-17 win over Springboro Friday night.

Mayberry finished with 312 passing yards. Junior Raequan Prince caught two TD passes and racked up 124 receiving yards, and senior Cornell Beachem had four receptions for 132 yards.

The vaunted Winton Woods defense did a good job containing Springboro senior QB Cameron Rountree. Rountree broke for a 55-yard run in the third quarter for Springboro’s only TD, but Winton Woods held him to just 2.5 yards per carry.

Springboro opened the scoring in the first quarter with a field goal, but Winton Woods marched down the field and took the lead on Mayberry’s 28-yard pass to Prince.

After another Connor Luksik field goal, Mayberry found Prince again for a 64-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-6 at halftime.

Winton Woods answered Luksik’s third field goal with Miyan Williams’ 14-yard TD run in the third quarter and it was 21-9.

After Rountree’s TD run, Winton Woods pulled away in the fourth quarter on Yeri Velasquez’s 30-yd FG and Mayberry’s 1-yard TD run.

Rountree was impressive in the passing game, throwing for 250 yards on 17 completions. Senior Kris Hughes had nine receptions for 118 yards.

Winton Woods will look to stay perfect this season when they host Royal Imperial Collegiate school from Canada, and Springboro opens conference play against Fairmont.
