CINCINNATI – Dusty Baker stole the Reds head trainer and the Reds promoted his assistant to the job Tuesday.

Paul Lessard, the Reds' head trainer since the 2010 season, is rejoining the ex-Reds manager in D.C., according to the Washington Post. Lessard also worked for Nationals GM Mike Rizzo with the Diamondbacks.

“He brings multiple years of experience in the major league setting,” Rizzo told the Post. “He’s experienced, respected trainer by all the players."

Lessard's departure opened the Reds' job for 38-year-old Steve Baumann, an assistant here since the 2005 season.

Jimmy Mattocks was promoted from Class AAA Louisville to fill Baumann's job. Assistant athletic trainer Tomas Vera and strength and conditioning coordinator Sean Marohn will return to the Reds' medical staff, the club said.
