SHARONVILLE, Ohio – Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum will campaign in Hamilton County Monday.

Santorum will address the Hamilton County GOP at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28 in the Sharonville Convention Center.

A former Pennsylvania senator, Santorum will be campaigning in House Speaker John Boehner’s stomping grounds, though he has aligned himself with the faction of the party that worked to pressure Boehner toward a government shutdown over Planned Parenthood funding.

After Boehner announced Friday he would be resigning, Santorum said Republicans in Congress “think they can’t win the battle, so they give up before it’s even fought,” the Associated Press reported.

Santorum has had some success going against the mainstream GOP in the past. In 2012, he narrowly won in Iowa after a grassroots campaign that included driving himself around the entire state in a pickup truck.

This time around, Santorum has generally been polling toward the bottom of the packed field of Republican candidates. He finished with less than 1 percent in a Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.

"This is the survivor portion of the campaign," Matt Beynon, a Santorum spokesman, told the Associated Press this week. "You have to build an organization for the resources that you really have, not for the resources you expect or want to have."
