Wyoming Fire Chief, retired Milford Fire Chief die on same day

CINCINNATI -- Wyoming Fire District Chief James “Jim” Benken and retired Milford Fire Chief John E. Cooper, Sr. died Friday. 

Benken passed away suddenly, the City of Wyoming Fire & EMS posted Friday.

“(He) is being mourned by all who knew him,” they said, and they expressed condolences to family and friends.

Cooper, 68, died at his Milford home Friday. He served as Milford’s fire chief for over 37 years, and had recently celebrated his 50th anniversary as a member of the fire department.

“His efforts exemplified the strong affection he held for his country, community and vocation. He was a true patriot, respected leader in the community, and outstanding fire chief,” the post read.

Cooper’s funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.

Benken’s visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wyoming Fire & EMS at 600 Grove Avenue Wyoming, Ohio. His funeral will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Ascension of the Holy Trinity Church in Wyoming, Ohio.
