CINCINNATI -- A Colerain Avenue water main erupted Monday night, shooting water several feet into the air and shutting down two lanes of northbound traffic in the process.

The six-inch water main had been leaking all week, according to Cincinnati Water Works, and finally ruptured around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Traffic slowed to a crawl on Colerain Avenue as Cincinnati Fire Department and Water Works employees worked to direct vehicles to the side of the road not affected by the break. Responders on the scene said they expected the repairs to take several hours.

By 5 a.m. Wednesday, there were six trucks on the scene preparing to dig up the street to reach that water main. One lane remains open in both directions.
